A Mathematical Theory of Communication, Bell System Technical Journal 27 (July 1948) 379–423 and (October 1948) 623–656. The bit. Entropy H(X) of an ensemble. Channel capacity. The noisy-channel coding theorem. Classified crypto memo 1945, later Communication Theory of Secrecy Systems.

Shannon’s first move is the one this site keeps: “Frequently the messages have meaning… These semantic aspects of communication are irrelevant to the engineering problem.” A checksum is not a sermon. A codebook is legal words, not a soul.

What is Gibson’s here: the codebook. Frozen-metric paper splits Shannon from Landauer. Do not write H(X) = 0 for a biblical verse as if that were Shannon bits.

Information, Physics, Quantum: The Search for Links — Santa Fe 1989 / 3rd International Symposium on Foundations of Quantum Mechanics, Tokyo 1989. The slogan: every “it” derives its function, meaning, existence from yes-or-no answers. Participatory universe.

This is a research program, not a proof that 74.16 KiB is ontology. Do not cite Wheeler as if he signed the lattice.

What is Gibson’s here: the question “is the bit prior?” stays open. The lattice is an engineering object. Wheeler is not a lemma.

Rolf William Landauer

Logical irreversibility is physical irreversibility. Erasing one bit in contact with a bath at temperature T dumps at least kT ln 2.

Shannon measures an ensemble. Landauer bills a physical reset. Same century, different invoice. Fuse them and you get poetry that cannot be checked.

2701 = T73 = 37 × 73 · he owns the cite

Vernon Jenkins

UK. Long-running public work on the Hebrew numerical structure of Genesis 1:1. Standard sum of the seven words = 2701. 2701 = 37 × 73 (emirp pair). 2701 is the 73rd triangular number. Last two words (“and the earth”) = 703 = T₃₇. Primary site historically: whatabeginning.com.

Jenkins does not own T₁₁₂ = 6328. That is Gibson’s architectural checksum (E8 integer subspace packing bound, L2 lattice order). Cite Jenkins for 2701. Cite Gibson for the 74.16 KiB table. Do not launder one into the other.

What is Gibson’s here: the habit of taking triangular numbers seriously as structure, not as a magic trick. The number on the Zero-GEMM paper is 6328, not 2701.

Born 28 May 1934, Illinois. Died 1 May 2018, Reporoa, New Zealand, age 83. Ham radio W6OHD at nine. Congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy. Graduated with honors 1956. Commission in the Air Force (Captain). Branch Chief, Department of Guided Missiles, Lowry AFB. 1960: TRW systems engineer. Think-tank work for intelligence / DoD. M.S. Engineering, UCLA. Ford Motor Company 1963; by 1966 Manager of the Technical Computer Center — first international time-sharing network there. Left Ford for Cyphernetics, later absorbed into ADP Network Services. 1976 Precision Instruments: optical media to replace large-scale magnetic tape.

Western Digital. Chairman and CEO from June 1977 (K-House timeline lists 1978). Largest shareholder. Took the company out of Chapter XI. Pushed R&D. In 1981 he personally funded and directed the first microchip implementation of the U.S. National Bureau of Standards Data Encryption Standard (DES), in concert with Carnegie Mellon Institute of Research. That is a silicon sentence. It belongs next to a lattice that lives in L2. It is not an embarrassment to hide from arXiv endorsers.

Record, do not flatten: Helionetics CEO 1983, left 1984; 1985 conflict-of-interest suit, settled $1.6 million. Phoenix Group International 1989 (PCs to Russian schools), bankruptcy 1990. Old Princeton · Scripture as a scientific object of study

Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield

Born 5 Nov 1851, Lexington, Kentucky. Died 16 Feb 1921, Princeton, New Jersey. Professor of didactic and polemic theology, Princeton Theological Seminary, 1887–1921. Last towering figure of Old Princeton (Alexander → Charles Hodge → A. A. Hodge → Warfield). High view of inspiration and inerrancy. Christianity is not irrational; it meets every legitimate demand of reason. Polemics against liberalism. Essays later gathered as The Inspiration and Authority of the Bible.

Record, do not flatten: Warfield allowed more room for theistic evolution than many of his later heirs like. He is not a mascot. He is the Lion of Princeton — Scripture can be studied as a public object without being reduced to a private feeling.

What is Gibson’s here: the checksum instinct. A text that claims to be from outside the system should survive inspection. That is Warfield’s nerve, not Van Til’s enemy.

Westminster · no brute facts · no neutrality

Cornelius Van Til

Born 3 May 1895, Grootegast, Netherlands. Died 17 Apr 1987. Princeton Theological Seminary Th.M. 1925; Ph.D. Princeton University 1927 (studied under C. W. Hodge Jr., Warfield’s successor line; lived on the same floor as J. Gresham Machen). Taught one year at Princeton, then 43 years at Westminster Theological Seminary after the 1929 split. The Defense of the Faith. Christian Apologetics. A Christian Theory of Knowledge. Transcendental argument: the Christian theistic worldview is the precondition of intelligibility. No brute facts. No neutral ground.

Dutch line: Kuyper (antithesis + common grace) and Bavinck. Van Til is often scored as “Kuyper against Warfield.” He described his own work as a synthesis: with Kuyper, different ultimate standards; with Warfield, Christianity is capable of rational defense and is not to be taken on blind faith. This page takes him at that word. Friends.

What is Gibson’s here: fail-closed epistemology. You do not pretend the lattice is a view from nowhere. You also do not hide the measurements. Van Til is the “no neutrality” register. Warfield is the “it can be checked” register. Keep both.

The book on the shelf · Systematic Theology

Louis Berkhof

Born 13 Oct 1873, Emmen, Netherlands. Died 18 May 1957, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Emigrated 1882. Calvin Theological Seminary 1900. Princeton Theological Seminary B.D. 1902–1904 — studied under B. B. Warfield and Geerhardus Vos. Faculty at Calvin 1906–1944; president 1931–1944. Dutch Reformed, Kuyper/Bavinck line, in English that pastors can actually use.

The book: lectures transcribed, issued 1932 as Reformed Dogmatics (with an introductory volume). Revised and published as the one-volume Systematic Theology (Eerdmans, 1938; further revision 1941). Loci: God, man, Christ, application of salvation, church, last things. Still in print. Common misspelling: “Berkoff.” His name is Berkhof.

This is not Van Til’s apologetic method and it is not Warfield’s journal articles. It is the map of the house those two are arguing how to defend. Doctrine (Berkhof) + inspection (Warfield) + no-neutrality (Van Til). Friends.

What is Gibson’s here: a loci spine so the other registers have somewhere to hang. Not a cite on a GEMM paper.

Christian, Sep 1931, after Addison’s Walk; confirmed the next week on the sidecar ride to Whipsnade. Church of England — to Tolkien’s disappointment. Inklings.

The Abolition of Man (1943). Mere Christianity (1952, from BBC talks). Narnia (1950–56). Space Trilogy. Till We Have Faces. Surprised by Joy. “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”

Lewis and Tolkien: friends, not a brand merger. Different churches, different myth-discipline, same table. Same rule as Warfield and Van Til.

Obsession as the alternative to average

The named book on this stack: Be Obsessed or Be Average (2016). Not a theology. Not a lattice paper. A will register: the middle is a trap; average is a decision. 10X is the surrounding sales/operating doctrine. This page does not baptize hustle. It records that the operator named this book as part of the stack that keeps a 20-year crew chief from going to sleep in the middle of the build.

Two named books: The Laws of Human Nature (2018) and the war book — The 33 Strategies of War (2006). (He also wrote The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, Mastery. Those are the catalog. These two are the stack.)

Nature: how people actually move — envy, grandiosity, aggression, the shadow — without pretending the flightline is a seminar. War: strategy as a field, not a mood. Green Ramp is already on /warrior. Greene is not a substitute for having been there. He is a language for remaining awake around other humans after you have.

Stryper — Michael Sweet

Stryper (Orange County): Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet, Oz Fox, Tim Gaines. The Yellow and Black Attack (1984). Soldiers Under Command (1985). To Hell with the Devil (1986) — the one that put Christian metal on MTV and in the actual charts. Not a youth-group cover band. A hard-rock band that refused to pretend the cross was an accident.

Michael Sweet: voice and guitar. Later work includes Sweet & Lynch with George Lynch — a join already inside this stack. Stryper was huge for this operator. On tape: Google+ Hangout Jam, 29 Jan 2012 — Bruce Garber, Oz Fox, Matt Gibson, latency and all. Other stories stay his until he writes them.

What is Gibson’s here: you can be loud, exact, and marked. Stryper is the permission structure a lot of Christian guitarists never got from the pulpit. He got it from the speakers.

Tony Harnell — TNT (Norway). Knights of the New Thunder, Tell No Tales (1987), “10,000 Lovers (In One).” High, clean, melodic. Proof that the top of the voice can be beautiful and still metal. Later Westworld, Starbreaker.

Les Carlsen — Bloodgood. Seattle Christian metal: Bloodgood (1986), Detonation (1987). Theater background (he played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar on stage).
